Inservice / Evaluation
of This page is for the use of the Inservice Facilitator. If you print
each of the pages they should fit on one page each. The ones in
brown are for any parents participating. Make sure you
have tested the program on all the computers. It would be shame if any did
not have FlashPlayer on them. Get
participants on the computers quickly. How parents can
help to make their children interested in reading.
Inservice Day One
Explain this is a new website with many innovative ideas for spelling.
Explain that the reason there is no sound is because it is a tool to be used by a tutor with one or a small number.
Participants are to look at it today and use during the week with students and decide how effective it might be.
Explain how on the opening screen there are three main sections.
1. Reading Flashcards
2. Spelling lists + Movie and Worksheets + Millionaire Revision
3. Homonyms and Confused Words
Explain to parents that this will not teach their children to spell or read by itself and that they must spend time with their children reading many books and using many forms of reading and spelling activities.
Explain to all teachers that they should assess it from the viewpoint of
i. normal classroom student
ii. remedial student
iii. gifted student
iv. how helpful it should be for a classroom teacher or remedial teachers.
v. how the program might fit into their Integrated Language Program.
vi. how it might fit into the whole school Spelling Program
Put everyone on a computer or put people in pairs.
Following Week
Get teachers, parents, students and children at home to work with the program.
Inservice Day Two
Invite some students from different levels to the meeting
Hand in evaluation sheets.
Have a general discussion.
Ask students to evaluate and perhaps demonstrate some interesting aspects they discovered.
Report Findings to Parents
